PowerApps Tuesday Tutorials #37 Patch() Alternative

The patch function in PowerApps is widely used, is is frankly quite a difficult function to get right, difficult to debug and complex to program when attempting to use different based on a combination of inputs. From my perspective it’s a bit like throwing a grenade at your data source – it might work, then again it might just explode!
In this session we’ll take a look at how we can use NewForm() and SubmitForm() in order to completely avoid using Patch.

  1. I use Patch() pretty much exclusively because I really hate the look of the forms and feel it is too much work to make them look okay to me. So while I disagree with your position that using forms is necessarily 'better', something your video shows me is the concept of connecting the more free form custom controls to an offscreen form. Pretty cool idea that just might get me using forms in the future.
